In the modifications section while choosing your map, you can select "Reign of the Lords Advancement Modifications" then combine that with any era that uses level 1 units. A conquest modifier to allow the computers to recruit level 4s with level 5 leaders however, I'd imagine, would be quite tricky, but I would be happy to see it happen.
That being said, when I have the time, I'm very tempted to just make another campaign that utilises Reign of the Lords, or just update my old one.
