In Rose of wesnoth the Saurians were depicted as on friendly terms with naga, another race not very well developed at all. In one of Haldric’s quest missions they summon mudcrawlers.
In Winds of Fate the Saurians are allowed to visit elvish territory (right before trashing it), so it wasn’t always just war with neighbors, though they clearly didn’t like each other.
